Founder of Foltaazje – producer, mentor and cultural builder

Mark Wagenaar lives and breathes music. As a producer, composer and mentor, he is the creative heart of Foltaazje, the studio in Leeuwarden he founded to bring makers, artists and young talent together. Mark is not only a technical craftsman, but also a visionary with a keen ear for artistic development and social impact.

FROM VOLTAGE TO FOLTAAZJE

The name ‘Foltaazje’ is Frisian for ‘voltage’ – a nod to Mark’s former alias Marc Volt, with which he toured internationally in the dance scene. He has since shifted course towards a richer, deeper sound: a blend of electronica, ambient, jazz, neo-classical and soul. With his new project Distant Pixels, he explores the boundaries between composition and sound design, digital and analogue, machine and human.

THE STUDIO AS HOME BASE

In the studio, Mark works on a wide range of projects: from producing artists such as Aki Nair and Juliana X to guiding young talent through LAB058 and The Producer Workshop. His portfolio also includes music by Tiësto, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, R3hab, John Newman and many others.

Besides working with artists, Mark regularly takes on creative cases for museums, installations, applied music and other technical challenges.

MUSIC AS MEDICINE

For Mark, music is more than sound – it is a way to connect, to heal and to tell stories. With new initiatives such as ‘Letters to the Future’ and his educational formats, he wants to use music as a bridge between generations, backgrounds and worlds.

SOCIAL COMPASS

Mark works towards fair opportunities, sustainable cultural production and artistic autonomy. He collaborates with institutions such as Friesland Pop, Kunstkade, Firda and youth care partners to make culture accessible to everyone.
